Hortus Orientalis is an academic journal, published for and by graduate students, that publishes new graduate research on ancient Near Eastern and Classical cultures, languages, and literature. It provides a multi- and inter-disciplinary forum for outstanding research articles that contribute to current scholarship.
Hortus Orientalis seeks to reflect the manifold dimensions of our disciplines, and is open to a range of historical topics and approaches. The journal’s geographical and chronological scope is broad, and it presents studies with a diversity of foci, from ancient times through to late antiquity. It provides graduate students the opportunity to develop their subject areas further through a serious academic review. Its purpose is to foster lively and productive academic debate, and its emphasis on a variety of disciplines and subject matters encourages thoughtful and creative commentary and the interchange of perspectives and ideas.
